Music Academy Offerings
Our Private Piano program offers individualized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, experience level, and musical interests. Students receive one-on-one weekly instruction with experienced faculty who emphasize strong technical foundations, confident musicianship, and expressive performance
Students develop skills in technique, sight-reading, theory, and repertoire spanning classical, jazz, and contemporary styles.
Lessons are customized for beginners through advanced musicians and are ideal for students preparing for performances, auditions, or personal artistic growth. The program encourages creativity, consistent practice, and a lifelong appreciation for music, with opportunities for studio classes, recitals, and collaborative experiences throughout the year.

Ages kindergarten to adult
Private lessons in jazz piano focus on solo and ensemble playing tailored entirely to jazz. Students explore its rhythms, harmonies, and improvisational language. Lessons are customized for each student’s interest and skill level, to enhance their piano technique and expand their stylistic range.
30, 45, and 60-minute lessons are available.
Ages 12 and up.
Our Private Voice program offers individualized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, experience level, and musical interests. Students receive one-on-one weekly instruction with experienced faculty who emphasize strong technical foundations, confident musicianship, and expressive performance.
Voice students focus on vocal technique, breath support, diction, repertoire, and confident, sustainable singing across genres.
Lessons are customized for students from beginners to advanced musicians and are ideal for students preparing for performances, auditions, or personal artistic growth. The program encourages creativity, consistent practice, and a lifelong appreciation for music, with opportunities for studio classes, recitals, and collaborative experiences throughout the year.
30, 45, and 60-minute lessons are available
Ages kindergarten to adult.
This course is designed for singer-songwriters looking to develop original music from an initial idea to a fully realized recording. Students explore songwriting fundamentals, including lyric writing, melody, harmony, and song structure, while shaping their artistic voice and learning to tell compelling musical stories.
In addition to writing, students are introduced to music production concepts such as arranging, foundational recording techniques, and the use of digital audio workstations to create demos of their work. Through guided workshops, listening sessions, and collaborative feedback, students refine their songs and gain confidence in presenting original material.
The class supports artists at various stages of development and encourages creativity, experimentation, and practical skills relevant to today’s music landscape. The course culminates in a portfolio of original songs and a listening showcase. First note to finish—welcoming every age and stage.

Private lessons in improvisation, focus on contemporary styles – jazz, blues, R&B, rock, and funk. Students will learn the basics of musical improv, starting with simple blues forms and expanding into various playing styles. We will cover soloing and accompanying techniques commonly employed in all modern genres of music. Lessons are open to students of all ages and skill levels. Previous experience is not required. All instruments are welcome.

Spire Children’s Chorus is an auditioned ensemble welcoming young singers of all experience levels who are eager to learn and grow. The chorus focuses on building strong foundational singing skills, including healthy vocal production, musicianship, and age-appropriate interpretation, while fostering a genuine love for choral music.
Rehearsals take place in a warm, motivating, and joyful environment that encourages confidence, curiosity, and collaboration. Singers develop ensemble awareness, performance techniques, and expressive communication while forming meaningful musical connections with their peers.
The chorus offers performance opportunities throughout the season, allowing children to share their progress and experience the joy of performing together on stage.
Chorus rehearsals are 90-minute sessions.

The Spire A Cappella Ensemble is an audition-only vocal group for singers interested in refining their vocal technique, strengthening musicianship, and developing polished ensemble performance skills. Designed for motivated individuals, this program offers the opportunity to explore a cappella repertoire in a collaborative, supportive environment with like-minded musicians.
Participants focus on blend, balance, tuning, rhythmic precision, and expressive communication while learning to perform confidently as part of a cohesive vocal ensemble.
Through rehearsals and performances, singers deepen their listening skills, stage presence, and musical artistry, growing both individually and collectively.
Chorus rehearsals are 90-minute sessions.

The Spire Jazz Ensemble is an exclusive, small-group program dedicated to the study and performance of traditional jazz and blues, with a strong emphasis on improvisation. This course meets weekly for 90-minute sessions combining full ensemble rehearsal with individualized one-on-one instruction, offering a highly focused and immersive learning experience.
The program culminates in live performances at the Spire Center, giving participants the opportunity to apply their skills in a professional performance setting. The ensemble is led by Berklee College of Music professor Lenny Williams, an accomplished pianist and composer with over 30 years of professional experience. Enrollment is open to pianists, bassists, drummers, guitarists, and players of horns and reeds.
Audition required.
High School Grades 9-12.
Rehearsals are on Sundays from 6-7:30 and take place on the Spire Center’s Mainstage.

Spire Music Academy offers ensemble coaching for pre-formed bands and groups across all genres who are ready to grow together. This program supports musicians in refining their sound, strengthening connection, and bringing greater clarity and expression to their music.
Through collaborative, focused coaching, ensembles build on their strengths while deepening communication, musical awareness, and group identity. Whether preparing for a performance, recording, or simply taking the next step, Ensemble Coaching provides a supportive space for established groups to evolve and elevate their work.
We are pleased to offer this course as either a single session or in a customized series of sessions based on your needs. Tuition is charged per session, with scheduling arranged directly through the registrar.

Tuition
Tuition reflects a thoughtful balance of artistic excellence and accessibility. A 10% tuition courtesy is extended to students enrolling in a second course within the academy.
10% discount on ensemble tuition as a second course. If you're enrolled in private lessons and adding an ensemble, you receive a 10% discount. (No discounts on private lessons)
Attendance & Absences
Consistent attendance is essential to each student’s musical growth and to the integrity of the program. While all faculty absences will be rescheduled, student absences for regularly scheduled lessons or rehearsals are not eligible for make-up sessions.
Scheduling
Lesson and rehearsal times are confirmed upon registration. Private lesson scheduling will be arranged at a mutually agreed-upon time in coordination with faculty and student.
Cancellations & Withdrawals
Enrollment reserves your place in the program. As such, tuition is non-refundable once the session has begun.
Performance Opportunities
Perform on the Spire Stage
At The Spire Music Academy, learning extends well beyond the lesson room. Students have the opportunity to perform throughout the year, including recitals on The Spire’s main stage and select pre-show performances connected to the venue’s live programming.
These experiences allow students to apply their skills in real-world settings, build confidence, and share their work with a live audience in a professional environment.

Lenny Williams is an American composer and pianist who has created musical soundtracks for television and film for over three decades. A six-time Emmy Award winner with twelve Emmy nominations, his work has been featured across major networks and documentary productions, earning widespread recognition for its depth and storytelling.
A versatile and accomplished pianist, Lenny has performed on two Grammy Award-winning recordings and was the longtime pianist for the late vocalist Eva Cassidy. His career has spanned live performance, composition, recording, and collaboration with acclaimed artists across genres.
He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition, and currently serves as a Professor in the Film Scoring Department at Berklee College of Music.
At The Spire Academy, Lenny brings a rare combination of professional experience and mentorship, helping students develop both technical excellence and a strong, individual artistic voice.

Dona Maher is a pianist, educator, and arts leader with more than 40 years of teaching and performance experience. Known for her warm, encouraging approach, she has guided students of all ages in developing both strong musicianship and lasting confidence.
Dona holds a Bachelor of Science in Piano from Towson State University and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with distinguished faculty and refined her performance and pedagogical skills.
Her performance experience includes work as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, piano duo artist, and ensemble performer, including appearances with “The Five Piano Extraordinaire.” In addition to her extensive private teaching career, she has served on piano faculties in both the Massachusetts and Baltimore/Washington, D.C. areas and brings significant experience in vocal coaching and musical direction.
Dona is also the Executive Producer of the Sunday Serenade Series at The Spire and serves on its Board of Directors, playing an active role in shaping its artistic programming. Her approach to teaching blends structure, creativity, and encouragement, creating an environment where students feel both supported and inspired to grow.
